Why magnetic polishers process metal surfaces so quickly


In a medical device production workshop in Jiangsu, a Magnetic polisher is processing the surface of surgical forceps. The traditional process requires 2 hours of Polishing, but this device completes the process in just 8 minutes. This revolutionary efficiency breakthrough stems from the magnetic polisher's exquisite control of the microscopic world.


The core innovation of the magnetic polisher is to convert traditional mechanical collisions into high-frequency micro-motion driven by electromagnetic fields. This nano-scale "trembling" can peel off the molecular structure of the surface burrs layer by layer without damaging the substrate. After a watch company used this technology, the surface roughness of the gear assembly was reduced from Ra1.6μm to Ra0.05μm, and the accuracy was improved by two orders of magnitude.


The revolutionary breakthrough in energy conversion efficiency is the physical basis for the high-speed operation of magnetic polishing. 90% of the energy of traditional polishing equipment is consumed in mechanical transmission and ineffective friction, while magnetic polishing directly converts electrical energy into abrasive kinetic energy, with an energy utilization rate of 78%. This efficient conversion enables the equipment power density to reach an astonishing 5kW/dm3, which is equivalent to concentrating the grinding power of 50 handheld angle grinders in 1 cubic decimeter of space. After a certain automobile parts factory in Suzhou introduced this technology, the energy consumption of single-piece polishing was reduced from 1.2kW·h to 0.15kW·h.


This innovation in surface treatment technology is reshaping the manufacturing industry. From precision aerospace parts to metal frames of smartphones, magnetic polishing machines have achieved an efficiency revolution in batch processing of complex components with the characteristics of "non-contact processing". While traditional processes are still "fighting" with surface burrs, magnetic polishing has entered the realm of molecular-level finishing, which is not only an iteration of technology, but also an important breakthrough in human control over the microscopic world.
